Hi, my name is Adam and I am
21. I am currently enrolled at
NSU (Nicholls State
University) as a Pre-med major. I have hopes of getting
into Tulane Medical School or some other highly respectable medical
school. My career goal is in psychiatrics and I also have hopes
of become an astronaut one day. I enjoy many things
including horses, astronomy, computers, and sports. I hope to one day
have a job that pays well and still gives me enough time for, most
importantly, a family and also horses. I live with my family in
Southern
Louisiana on what was once White Hall Plantation. It's a
beautiful, quiet place to live with a long, interesting history.
Although most of this history is about the past, we do enjoy the
presence of a majestic live oak tree,
at
right. This tree has been estimated to be 600 to 700 years old
by a forestry expert. Unfortunately, that is also the geriatric
stage for such treasured resident of our farm. You can see the
tree better and read a little bit more about it including some short
stories from the people who grew up around the tree by just clicking
on the image.
My
Writings
I don't usually like to write
but every once in a while, it is either necessary or I feel moved to
write something. Some of what I write is pretty good and then there is
other things that are not good at all. I have two items that I
would like to share with you. "The Dream Is Alive" is a speech
that I wrote in mid 2002. All of my other works are poems.
In my poetry, I don't try to create an image or even try to establish a
rhyme, my main goal is to express an emotion. My poem, "A
Wonderful Thing Worth Waiting For" is being published in a collection
called "Whispers" by the
American Poets Society. To view the poem or one of my
other works, simply select the
name of the work from the drop down menu and then click view.
In order to view my work, you must have
Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or higher
Horses
I
absolutely love my 1997 home-bred APHA Red Dun Overo mare, Barlinks Tuf Buffy.
Buffy can be seen in the picture to the left. In
1998 and 1999
Buffy was the 4-H Reserve State Champion Paint Mare. Then in 2000
Buffy was named the 4-H State
Champion Paint Mare. We went to the 4-H Southern Regional Horse Show
held in Raleigh, North Carolina. We were very successful
there, being named the 2000 Reserve Champion Stock Type Mare!
Buffy and I repeated as the 2001 4-H State Champion Paint Mare.
Then we went to
Memphis, Tennessee for the 4-H Southern Regionals where we placed
once again as the Reserve
Champion Stock Type Mare. Amazingly
enough, the 2002 show season brought the same results! After being
named the 4-H State Champion Paint Mare again, we headed once more to
Memphis, Tennessee. You
guessed it; we were lucky again and came home with
another Reserve
Championship.
I have also had the goal of earning Buffy's Youth
Superior in Halter and on November 1st I did just that. Now Buffy is retired and
in foal to four time World Champion, Prairie
Gold, for the second time. Her first foal, Becca, is
awesome and we can't wait to get another one.
Now that Buffy is retired and I
am in school away from home, I will not be showing anything right now.
I had been showing our mare HT
Tommy Girl but do to an shoulder injury, no one can show her now. She is a superior Open Halter mare
and is still very beautiful but she still can't be shown.
I also haveBecca. She is a breeding stock mare that is for sale. She is a very beautiful
mare with a lot of potential.

these and our other horse.
Accomplishments
I have many accomplishments to
date. Many of them are academic and others are with the horses. My
academic awards are comprised of the following: 1998-1999 Who's Who Among
American High School Students, 1999-2000 Who's Who Among American High
School Students, 2000-2001 Who's Who Among American High School Students,
2001-2002 Who's Who Among American High School Students, 1999-2000
Academic Champions In Education, 1999-2000 Breakfast of Champions,
2000-2001 Breakfast of Champions, 2001-2002 Breakfast of Champions, United
States Achievement Academy National History and Government Award, and
United States Achievement Academy All American Scholar.
Astronomy
I have a strong interest in
astronomy. I have my own telescope and I participate in many
astronomy activities as well as astronomical research. I am a
member of the
Baton Rouge Astronomical Society and participate in the
research program called
Seti@Home.
I have amassed an extensive collection of almost 1000 astronomy links
that is still growing. I have this dedicated on its own page
called
Adam's World Astronomy Links. I also enjoy collecting space and aeronautics memorabilia. I have
several authentic patches from the space missions and some other
military patches that a military friend got for me. I love space.
I have many sky chart books and other general information astronomy
books. I also have a star chart program called
Red
Shift 4. It
is by far the best program that I have ever used and would recommend it
to anyone.
SETI@HOME
I
participate in a program call
Seti@Home
(Search For Extraterrestrial Intelligence At Home). This is a
program that uses the computer power of millions of computers all over
the world to search for artificial radio signals that do not have an
earth origin. I am running a total of 14 computers to help in this search. I
believe that it is really interesting to be a part of something that
could change the way we look at the world and ourselves. If you
want to know more about this program or you are
interested in taking part, just
Click
Here. There are even message boards where you can ask
experts questions about the program or just meet other people with this
interest.
Bottles
One of my biggest hobbies is collecting glass bottles. I
presently have over 400 bottles. I got started in this hobby many years ago when I found a
Coca Cola bottle laying around the farm. It was a New Orleans Saints
bottle from 1996 when they were the Division Champions. The hobby
just took off from there. Now I have bottles from all over the world and
bottles that cannot hold an ounce to
bottles that hold a gallon. I have Pepsi, Coca Cola, Royal Crown, 7UP, Dr.
Pepper, Braque's Root beer, and others in my collection. I also have an
old Tabasco bottle ,seen to the right, that appears to be one of the earliest made.
This bottle measures 4½" tall with a max diameter of 1½".
The words "Extract Tabasco, New Iberia" are embossed on the bottom
of the bottle. I also have many
"one of a kind" bottles, most of which come from around my area.
Most of the bottles that I find around my area are related to local
industry of the past and present. If you are also a bottle
collector, you can contact me because I also sell some bottles to
support the collection. If you are interested in seeing many more pictures and other info on my bottle
collection, Click here.
Sports
Another hobby of mine is sports. I enjoy participating
and watching many sports. Among the sports that I participate in are
cycling, baseball, tennis, running, and soccer. Other sports that I
enjoy are football, hockey, auto racing, swimming, and volleyball. I
actually have a baseball card collection but it has been years since I
have added anything to it other than a Becket here and there. I have
a few other cards including a Marshall Faulk card from 1996 and a Wayne
Gretzky card from 1991. These cards are some of my favorite and both
are in mint condition. If you are interested in looking up the value
of your cards, the best site for this is
My
Cards. It is a free service that allows you to track the
value of your entire collection.
As you can tell from this site, I really enjoy computers. I own
2
computers; a desktop and a laptop. I built my
desktop in early 2004. It is a
AMD
1.35 GHz with 256 Mb 133 SDRAM.
It has two hard drives. One is a 40 GB hard drive and the
other is a 120 GB hard drive. I am running Windows XP Professional. My
laptop is a
Hewlett Packard
Pavilion ZT1135. The processor is a 1.2 GHz
Intel Celeron. It has 256 Mb of 133
SDRAM. It has a 20 GB hard drive and I am running Windows XP
Home. I have a 512 MB flashdrive that I use to transfer files for
school and personal use. I also have a
Texas
Instruments TI-84 Plus Silver Edition. I use it in
conjunction with my computers for school. It is great for mathematics
and sciences as well as some other subjects. I find that the TI-84 Plus
is a very helpful tool not only in the class room but when doing other activities
as well.
One of my favorite activities on the computer
is web mastering. This site is one of 4 that I currently do.
All of my sites are listed off to the right of this passage. On my
websites, I do all of the web design, webmastering, andthe
graphic design. I don't always start from scratch when doing
the graphics, I usually find the central image that I
need then alter it and incorporate into the design as needed. I wish
I could design everything from scratch but I am just not capable of that
right now. I also don't know every last
thing that can be done on a website. I just find an
example of something
that I like and work my way through the code until I
know how to make it work for me. Web mastering might not always be
easy but I enjoy it and I hope that you enjoy my results.
Music
I am a big music enthusiast. When people ask what
kind of music I like, I usually reply by saying that there are not many
that I don't like. If I had to chose though, I would have to pick
Country music with rock being my second favorite. I have many CDs and I
use all of them to make MP3s for my own personal use. I do not allow
anyone to download from me nor do I download from anyone else. I
don't even have a file sharing program. My MP3s are for my own
personal use only. It keeps me from hauling around all of my
CDs and believe me, that is a good number.
Most of the CDs that I have are country. I have
all of the CDs that Garth Brooks ever made
except for one, "Beyond the Seasons." I have 4 autographed CDs
as well. These CDs are Tammy Cochran's self titled CD, Jamie O'Neal's
"Shiver", and Jessica Andrews' "Heart Shaped World"
and "Who I Am." You can see images of these CDs below.
I also have some rock and alternative CDs. This portion of my CD
collection is growing quite rapidly right now. In addition to the
collection I also have some Classical. I really enjoy theses CDs
especially when I want to relax or am working on something that I need to
concentrate on.
I also listen to the radio a lot.
There are only two radio stations that I listen to. For country it
is
101.5 WYNK and for
New Rock it is X 104.9. Now I do listen to 98.1 but that is only for
live LSU game coverage, GEAUX TIGERS. My favorite radio personalities are
on WYNK. They have Big D and Bubba both of whom I have met and think are really cool. Big D and Bubba always
have Patrick, their producer, doing things that your average human being
would not do and it is really funny. They also have
Scott
Innes who has his show "Cartoons." Scott is really
cool because of his work to help children at St. Jude's hospital.
Scott is also the voice of Scooby Doo.
One of my
favorite thing to do in the world of music is going to concerts. I
have been to many concerts and try not to miss a chance to go to one.
My first true concert was a Garth Brooks concert in what I think was 1999.
It was a totally invigorating experience. I have also been to
several smaller concerts at festivals and other events. One of these
events was the WYNK Listeners Appreciation Concert. There we were able to
watch several country music artist including, Jamie O'Neal, Tyler England,
Tim Rushlow, and Cheryl Write. It was a really cool experience
because they all came down and I got the meet them after the show.
There is also the Jambalaya Festival and other special events that
showcase some very awesome talent.
I really enjoy going
on what I call "Concert Adventures."
These "Concert Adventures" are where
I, along with friends, go on the trial of
local bandsof which there are currently two. The fist band is Chizel. Chizel
is a really good Alternative rock band.
My personal opinion of them is that "it is not a matter of if they will
make it big but a matter of when." I strongly suggest going catch a Chizel concert
when you are in or around Baton Rogue. Just visit
Chizelband.com for a list of up comingshows. I want to wish Chizel good luck. The second band is Almas Gemelas. They are a
Latino band in the New Orleans area. The are selling out many places
including
The House of Blues. Ifyou like Latino music or not, I
suggest that you take the time to check these guys out. Just Check
them out at there website at
Almas-Gemelas.com.
Here are images of the CDs that I have gotten
autographed over the years.
Messengers
I enjoy talking to my friends as
well as new people all the time. If you ever want to talk to me just
