Cattle Medication Bottles |
 |
These two bottle are believed to be one of a
kind. Both were found when my aunt was building her house on a
vacant lot. The one to the left measures 3.25" tall
with a max circumference of 2.9375". The words "B. A.
FAHNEDSTOCK'S VERMIFUCE" are embossed vertically on the
side of the bottle. The bottle to the right measure
4.0625" tall by 1.25" wide by .625"
thick. The volume of both bottles is unknown. I found that these bottles were used for cattle
medication when I questioned my grandfather about them. He
was born in 1918. |

Hicks Capudine Bottle |
|
I would like to thank Suzanne for information to
the history behind this awsome bottle. |
 |
It
is interesting to find out how people were treated a long time
ago. This bottle lets us pear into the pass a little and
just get an idea of what it was like. This bottle was
produced for Hicks Capudine. The medication was created by
Henry T. Hicks in Raleigh, North Carolina. It was
manufactured during the early decades of the last century. I have no idea what capudine
really is but the uses are quite interesting. The words
"FOR ALL HEADACHES, COLDS, CRIPP, ETC" is embossed on
the front of the bottle vertically as well as "HICKS
CAPUDINE." I don't' know about you but I have never
heard of a medication that could cure headaches, colds, cripps
and etc. that must have been some powerful stuff.
Suzanne Hicks, the great-grand daughter of Henry
T. Hicks tells me that it did, in
fact, cure headaches, flu, etc. and was also advertised to "calm
nerves," but keep in mind that there was no FDA -- or other
controls -- back then, so the ingredients were naturally stronger. The only other marking that this bottle has is a small
"C" at the bottom of the bottle on the back side. Its
purpose is not known. This bottle measures 6..75"
tall by 2.25" wide by 1.25" thick and holds an unknown
volume. This bottle was
sealed with a cork. |

side it has "DR. C. H. TICHENOR" embossed on it.
This bottle measures 4.5" tall by 1.6875" wide by
1.25" thick and holds an unknown volume. The bottle to the right is also of the
same kind. There is nothing embossed on the front but on
the left side is "ANTISEPTIC" and on the right side is
"DR. TICHENOR". This bottle measures
4.6875" tall by 1.625" wide by 1.875" thick and
holds an unknown volume. Both bottles have a very similar shape, they only
very by dimensions and both were sealed with corks. |

 |
This bottle is truly one of a kind. The

What makes this bottle so unique is the label and cork. It
is very rare to find a bottle like this. Most of the label

Kaplan Drug Store in Kaplan, LA. the medication was issued to a
Mrs. Ramy Boudreaux. On the back of the bottle is the
measurements for the amount the bottle can hold. The
bottle measures 6.5" tall by 2.625" wide and 1.5"
thick and hold up to 160 CC or 160 ml. It is really cool
to have a bottle like this one.
