SPECIAL
ANNOUNCEMENT: Adam and Buffy have earned their Superior in Youth
Halter. They finished out with a bang at the Forest, Mississippi 4
judge Paint-O-Rama show on November 2, 2002. While they went there
needing only 2 points, they were the Circuit Champions earning 8 points
and their Superior! |
|
Adam has raised Buffy since the
day she was born. She was a little cutie and now, at five, she stands 16 hands
tall and weighs 1,440 pounds. Adam's glad that she's tall because he's 6'3" and seems to
dwarf many horses. Adam
is now 19. |
|
|
|
Buffy's
sire is Dee Link. He's a World Champion Halter stallion. Her
dam was a beautiful mare named Triple Grand. "Trixie" was
the daughter of two World Champion halter horses. Trixie was
foundered before we bought her, but she lived a happy life with
us. We raised five foals off of Trixie with Buffy being the only
filly. All of Trixie's foals were overos. |
|
|
|
Buffy
is an overo, she just doesn't have a ton of white. She's
eye-catching with her nice big blaze and her four socks. Her
qualifying markings are the white spot on her belly and the high white on
the inside of her right fore leg. |
|
|
|
Adam
was rather young when Buffy was born and they've grown up
together. Now they're both to their full adult size and they're both
tall. Adam has trained Buffy from day one. She's always been
his horse. |
|
|
|
Buffy
has always been a sweetheart and she's always loved having Adam
around. Now as a grown mare she's very protective of Adam. She
gets furious if he spends time with another horse. She's spoiled
rotten when it comes to Adam. |
|
|
|
The
picture above was taken when Buffy was three years old. We had
hauled her all the way to Raleigh, North Carolina for the 2000 4-H
Southern Regional Championships. They were the Reserve
Champion. It was thrilling! |
|
|
|
The
picture above was taken in Memphis, Tennessee in 2001 after Adam and Buffy
once again took the Reserve Championship honors at the 4-H Southern
Regional Championships. What a wonderful accomplishment! |
|
|
|
Adam
and Buffy have recently completed showing in 4-H. This was their
last year because of Adam's age. The
picture above was taken in Memphis, Tennessee in 2002 after he and Buffy
grabbed their third consecutive Reserve Championship of the 4-H Southern
Regional Championships. What a run these two have had! |
|
Now
that Buffy
is a Superior Halter Horse, she has retired from the show ring.
She's now a broodmare. She just had a filly sired by the multiple World
Champion stallion Prairie Gold. Below is a picture of Prairie Gold.

Here's
a break down of Adam and Buffy's success in the showring. We're
quite impressed, not to mention proud of their accomplishments! |

We
attended the 1998 Southern Regional 4-H Championships in Little Rock,
Arkansas, the 2000 Southern Regional 4-H Horse Show in Raleigh, North
Carolina, the 2001 Southern Regional 4-H Championships in Memphis,
Tennessee, and the 2002 Southern Regional 4-H Championships, also in Memphis,
Tennessee. In Halter, only
the State Champion has an automatic berth to go. We couldn't miss
these shows for
the world and we're glad we didn't! |
|
|
Adam and Buffy placed fifth as a
yearling (against all ages) and as the Reserve Champion as a three-year-old, four-year-old,
and five-year-old! She was "only" the Reserve State Champion in 1999 and
as such, she didn't qualify for the Birmingham, Alabama Southern
Regionals that year.
|
|
Adam
and Buffy are pictured below while Buffy got to stretch her legs at the Georgia Welcome
Center in 2000. We were on our way to Raleigh, N.C. at the
time. Buffy was only three and that trip was a lot for her. She's well
traveled, but never 2,400 miles in eight days before! |
|
|
|
Showing takes a lot of miles, a
lot of time, and yes, too much money, but it's an investment in our son and
we've all had a wonderful time, state after state, show after show. |
|
|
Adam
has just completed his last year of eligibility for competition in the APHA
Youth classes. He'll complete next showing his brother's mare, HT
Tommy Girl, in Amateur Halter while Ross, her owner, shows her in Youth.
Tommy already has her Superior in Open Halter and we're hoping to add
another one or two superiors to her record, in time. Tommy gave us a fine overo colt this past
spring, so she got the a year
off to be a mom, but she's now being fitted again for the showring. :) |
