Empidonax flaviventris

Photographed January 28, 2007, Franklin Parish, LA

Yellow-bellied flycatchers are very small, olive-green above, yellowish below, including throat, with 2 white wing bars and yellowish eye ring.

Their range is from central Canada and Newfoundland south to the Great Lakes region, northern New York, northern New England, and Maritime Provinces.  They winter from Mexico to Panama.  This one is wintering in northern Louisiana.

This single bird was seen before and after the pictures were taken.  It was thoroughly enjoying beef fat John had nailed to a tree for carnivorous birds.
