On November 19th, 2006 John and I took my sons to shoot some skeet. John is a natural
teacher and an amazingly good skeet shot. In the past, he taught both
Ross and me how to shoot. This day was Adam's chance to learn.
Adam never had the opportunity before to learn how to shoot well. John and
I gave Adam a gun for his last birthday and John was able to teach Adam good
form with the gun. Just like when I was first taught how to shoot properly,
it took Adam a little while to get on the targets, but then he started
blowing them away. I wish he had more time to do this more often.
John, who has shot skeet competitively in the past, knows good form and was
able start all three of us as a clean slate. Frankly, my skill amazes me.
I truly didn't expect to be able to hit a single target. Now I'm even able
to catch up to one that caught me sleeping. My swing is getting quite good
and I often intuit when to pull the trigger. My motor memory is pleasing
me.
Ross, who is so much like John, just loves to hunt and shoot. He is getting
very good at skeet shooting....and shooting walnuts, brazil nuts, pecans,
little dinner mints and even making aspirin disappear into little puffs of
white with a BB gun. He throws these into the air then shoots them before they come back
down. I can honestly say that he's having a blast shooting just about every
afternoon. It's starting to look like he'll end up being a trick shot.
He's getting that good.
I've got a few short videos of my guys destroying clay targets, but I used
our new camcorder to film them and I'm finding it difficult to do what I
want with the videos after I have them on this computer. It's one of those
new Hard Disk Drive cameras that stores your files on an internal hard
drive. I'll post them once I take a little more time to study it.
For now, I've got a few pictures. You can't tell just how good they are at
this from stills, but I still love looking at my guys having fun, being
guys! I wish all our boys would have been there. |
